"If you've been into hardcore for any length of time and not heard at least one Seein' Red release then you're probably doing something desperately wrong. While you could almost worry about taking them for granted since they seem to be such a familiar part of the scenery, any given release soon puts paid to any such complacency with a rapid series of wince-inducing kidney punches wrapped up in blazing old-school hc and caustic political message.
Countrymen Mihoen were hardly spring chickens themselves by the time they carked it, but a 12-year career didn’t see them slackening the pace any, pummelling out a similar line in raging blink-and-you'll-miss-it hardcore that'll knock the breath from your lungs and trample you underfoot before you’ve had a chance to realise quite what's happened.
Needless to say, this is yet another great punk record from the labels concerned and the really rather awesome sleeve that wraps it all up is further icing on the cake. So, what you waiting for? Go feed your record collection one right now!"

"Twee jaar geleden gaf Mihoen! de spreekwoordelijke pijp aan Maarten. Eeuwig zonde, want in mijn ogen was het één van de leukste Nederlandse bands van de afgelopen jaren. Ze moesten het niet van hun strakheid hebben (vooral live wilde het hier en daar nog wel eens rammelen) maar de muziek werd echter met zoveel energie en tomeloze agressie gebracht dat ik het altijd weer een genot vond om de band bezig te zien. Op een geslaagde manier wisten ze humor en een daadwerkelijke boodschap met elkaar te combineren, iets wat maar weinig bands ze na doen. Gelukkig voor mij dus verscheen onlangs eindelijk de langverwachte split 10” met de hardcorepunkpioniers van Seein Red.
"Direct na de eerste tonen van 'NAVO Hoezo?' realiseer ik me dat ik Mihoen! eigenlijk best wel gemist heb. Het doet me terugverlangen naar de zondagmatinee's in het ACU en naar kraakpandshows waar je met een lauwe halve liter euroshopper in de hand de polonaise deed op hits als 'Het is weer feest' en 'De fiets van Wim'. Was vroeger dan alles beter? Nee hoor, integendeel! Ik durf te beweren dat deze laatste stuiptrekking van de Utregse kitchenpunx het beste is wat ze ooit gemaakt hebben. In nummers als 'Zinloos Gewerk', 'Nederland Op z'n Smalst' en 'De Koek is Op' beukt de band er als vanouds op los en legt wederom de vinger(s) op de zere plekken van de Nederlandse samenleving. En dat is, gezien de huidige politieke situatie, hard nodig!

Eigenlijk had ik geen betere band dan Seein Red kunnen bedenken om Mihoen! naar zijn laatste rustplaats te begeleiden. Na meer dan 20 jaar (!!) weet de band nog altijd te boeien en doet waar het goed in is: het creëren van een enorme muur van geluid, rauwe agressie en frustratie. Indrukwekkend dat een band die al zo lang bezig is nog altijd zo gedreven en kwaad kan klinken. En ook al kan ik ze live altijd beter waarderen dan op plaat, ze doen zeker niet onder voor hun collega's van Mihoen! Vooral het herkenbare 'Diktatuur van de Wekker' en het wederom actuele 'Verkiezingscircus' gaan er in als koek. Voor de gelegenheid zijn overigens alle nummers voorzien van een Nederlandse tekst en dat doet het in mijn boekje sowieso altijd goed.

Deze 10” is een waardige afsluiting van 12 jaar Mihoen! en een must voor iedereen die beide bands een warm hart toedraagt. Zorg dus dat je een exemplaar te pakken krijgt van dit stukje vaderlandse punk historie want het zou me niks verbazen als 'ie over twintig jaar voor astronomische bedragen op Ebay staat. Klassiekertje!"

"To start with I must say that I’ve always been partial to the 10” vinyl format, there’s something very cool about it, and what better to have 10” record featuring two great Dutch bands?
I have a lot of Seein’ Red records, as you would expect for a band that’s been around as long as these guys have, and here they deliver another ten blistering songs. They are all sung in Dutch, but they offer English translation of the lyrics, and as usual they are worth reading, but I guess that goes without saying.
I don’t have anything else by Mihoen, which is odd as Pilger played our first Southampton gig (I think) with them, and I remember being impressed, so it seems odd that I didn’t ever get anything by them. Their songs here are certainly sounding pretty good, very good in fact which has me kicking myself that I haven’t been more switched on. Mihoen are sadly no longer together, but with a set of songs this good they certainly won’t be forgotten.
They also sing in Dutch, and while the lyrics aren’t translated, they do offer song explanations in English, so ignorant gits like me can understand what they’re singing about. It’s interesting to see their views on Dutch society and the explanation for the song “Nederland Daar Ga Ik Voor” is pretty universal and sums up the way I feel about living in the UK; “...If you watch TV, listen to what people say to each other on the train, read the papers or check out the election results then you can see that you have absolutely nothing in common with many of your fellow countrymen...”
This is not only a collaboration between two great bands, but also three cool labels; collaboration not competition is the message, and one I fully agree with. Releases like this are a good indication of why I’m still involved with punk rock."
